Hair loss affects more than 30 million women in the United States
|
Androgenetic alopecia and traumatic alopecia are the most common causes of hair loss in women. Women
who suffer from these types of hair loss are the clients for whom Ms Lola specifically designs lace frontals and
crown closures. Androgentic alopecia, hereditary hair thinning, occurs in both men and women. It is the most
common form of alopecia in women. It can begin as early as the 20s. By age 40, 40% of these women have
noticeable hair thinning due to this condition. By age 50, 50% of them have severe signs of hair loss. With this
type of hair loss, women usually do not develop true baldness in the patterns that occur in men, but normally
are affected in the temples and the crown, while the front hair line is usually preserved. Traumatic alopecia is
hair loss due to scarring of the scalp area. This form of hair loss frequently occurs in African-American women.
Traumatic alopecia is divided into three categories: traction, chemical and follicular alopecia.
Traction alopecia is associated with persistent use of tight braids, hair rollers, weaves, twist, locks, or
cornrows. The first sign of traction alopecia is thinning above the ears and the forehead. This hair loss is often
seen in young girls. Partial or complete regrowth of hair can follow, but permanent loss of hair can occur when
the roots of the hairs are severely damaged.
Chemical alopecia is the damage to the scalp and hair shaft caused by commercial relaxer products. It will
resemble hair thinning resulting from hereditary causes, but it will also include scarring of the scalp, which
could irreversibly damage the hair follicles.
Follicular alopecia is the gradual destruction of hair follicles by the excessive use of pomades with a hot comb
or iron. Thinning usually begins at the crown and then spreads evenly throughout the head. It is an irreversible
condition in little girls.
Ms Lola designs the most beautiful hair units for women who suffer from hair loss, who choose to integrate as much of their own hair as possible with hair additions. For these clients, she makes available, lace frontals, half wigs, 3/4 wigs, crown closures and weft hair. These units add thickness and length to selective areas of the head that need additional hair to compensate for hair loss of all types. These units are easy to install by the use of adhesive products, hair clips, or sew-in with weaves. The final result is a totally natural feel and appearance.
PLEASE NOTE: For crown closures and 3/4 wigs, Ms Lola recommends that you send her a custom template instead of submitting measurements. This added step leaves minimal room for error, ensures that your hair loss area is addressed correctly, and guarantees that your new hair will fit perfectly.
